Registered Massage Therapist
Susan Christie Riel has been a massage therapy practitioner at Advanced Healing Arts (formerly Coquitlam Massage Therapy) since February 1994 after graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in the summer of 1993. She was registered with the College of Massage Therapy of B.C. as an RMT in the fall of that same year. In July of 2005 she moved her practice into her home and after selling it, she decided to rejoin Dr. A. Taylor at the AHA clinic location.
Susan is also a Yoga Teacher and has been teaching since the spring of 1972 after finishing a Yoga Teacher's Training Course in the summer of 1971 in Val Morin, Quebec. She has taught in North Vancouver, Vancouver, Burnaby, California (1977) and Coquitlam over these many years since. She currently teaches adult community education courses for the Burnaby School Board and has been doing so since 1974.
Both Yoga and massage therapy are holistic health care and well-being practices that, when combined work very well together toward more optimal and positive patient outcomes. Susan's massage therapy practice has applied the benefits of both disciplines in the treatment of her patient load and therefore her practice has always focused on overall stress reduction, health management, maintenance and prevention. Although many of her patients started off coming to her for massage therapy after car accidents, surgery or major illness ( after being referred to her by their physicians) they most often continued treatments after recovery for overall health maintenance and prevention therapy.
